Everyone Loves San Francisco

We all know that I love San Francisco. I fall in love with this city again and again almost every single time that I step out into the streets here or meet someone new here or attend an event here. But I’m hardly the only one who feels that way. In fact, one of the things that I think is best about this city is that almost everyone who lives here really loves it here. Nobody is here by accident; they’re all here by choice because it’s a really great city.

And travelers agree. Conde Nast has completed its annual survey of the top travel destinations, top hotels and resorts, and top transportation. With all the votes in (there were over 30,000), San Francisco is number one on the list of American cities to spend time visiting.

In addition to being the top city, specific aspects of the city were included in some of the other top lists in the survey. The Four Seasons Hotel was on the list of Top 100 properties. It was also on the Top Hotels list along with our Ritz Carlton, the Mandarin Oriental, and Campton Place. And of course, since we’re an urban area, many of the top transportation agencies (airlines, car rental agencies, etc.) are available here.

I don’t know if I agree with the specifics of the last but I definitely agree that San Francisco is the top American city. It’s in good company; the other “number one” cities for their regions were Bangkok, Florence, Cape Town, Buenos Aires and Sydney. So, if you do have to travel away from here those might be good places to go.

Your post is stirring up my nomadic urges. Since Shanghai is called San Francisco’s sister city, and my ancestors are from China, I’ve always been curious about this so-called Babylon of the East. But I have mixed feelings about visiting China because of its government’s appalling history of human rights violations.

@KennethSF - I don’t know a lot about travel throughout China although everyone I know who has gone has really positive things to say about the experience. I was super excited to see that Buenos Aires ranked high on the international cities list because I’ve been reading a lot about it and am trying to plan a trip there in the next year or so. From what I understand, it’s got a lot in common with SF although a lot of its own uniqueness as well.
