7 Boudoir / Pin-Up Photographers in San Francisco

As I was putting together the information for today’s earlier post about the class that’s happening tomorrow hosted by San Francisco photographer Cate Corbitt, I realized that I still hadn’t gotten around to writing a post that I’d been planning to write for awhile. You see, I’ve started doing some research into the photography studios here where you can get sexy professional photographs taken.

I’ve decided that I need to get sexy professional photos taken of myself for my birthday so that I can always have them from this time of my life. I have a little while before that date hits but I’ve started looking around to make sure that I choose the photographer that I really want to use. In doing that research, I’ve come to find out that there are quite a few options to choose from for getting sexy photos taken in San Francisco.

Here are some of the choices that I’ve discovered so far:

1. ErosFoto. This is the first place that I checked out online after picking up a flier for the photography studio at a clothing store I like in Hayes Valley. So far, it’s at the top of my list for where I might like to get my own photos done. This is  women’s photographer for women (or couples) who has had her work displayed in galleries and who really brings the edginess of fun art to her pictures. From what I can tell, it looks like taking photographs with her would just be a really fun experience. You can bring your own clothing and props as well as use some of the stuff the photographer has to share. Packages range from $350 to $900 depending on the number of people and number of clothing changes desired as well as the amount of time of the photo shoot. One sample photo from the site:

2. Dollhouse Bettie. If you’re interested in vintage lingerie and you’ve spent any time in The Haight lately then you’ve probably already stumbled across Dollhouse Bettie, the store that sells sexy vintage-inspired lingerie. You may not have known that Dollhouse Bettie has a second location where you can go to get professional boudoir photographs taken. There are three different packages to choose from starting with a basic two-hour photo shoot for $200 with a 10% discount on Dollhouse Bettie lingerie purchased for the shoot. At the other end of the price range is “The Works” for $700 which includes professional hair, make-up and wardrobe consultation, discounts on lingerie and three hours with the photographer.

3. Cate Corbitt. This is the photographer who is hosting the aforementioned class tomorrow which will teach those attending some of the tricks that she uses in taking sexy photos of people. She appears to primarily be a wedding photographer but her portfolio also includes a section of her boudoir photographs. What I would say from looking at this portfolio is that she takes photos of you that look really natural and really real but that bring your own sexiness to the forefront of the photo. The pricing on her website is just for wedding photos so interested people would have to contact her directly to get pricing info on boudoir photography.

4. Sweetheart Studios. This female photographer offers classic boudoir photography that appears to be more about sensuality than sex per se. You get two hours of photos taken in romantic and / or natural settings with up to seven wardrobe changes. The price depends on the number of photos you want with packages starting at 24 images for $275 and unlimited images (within your photo shoot time frame) for $475. You can also pay a tad extra for professional make-up and hair styling.

5. Lolo’s Boudoir. The first word that comes to mind about this female photographer when looking at her website is “flirty”. She describes herself in the “about” section with information that others wouldn’t necessarily share (such as “winks at the moon”) which makes you feel like she’s not afraid to be intimate with you which is exactly what you want, I think, from someone taking your sexy photos. Multiple “s” words she uses to describe these photos include silly, sassy and sexy. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?! You get a one-hour photo shoot that includes personal touches ranging from a pre-shoot consultation to at-shoot champagne and chocolate with packages starting at $900.

6. Colette Photography. The one-line motto on this photographer’s website is “boudoir for yourself” which I think sums up a lot of what a woman might be looking for if she’s getting boudoir pictures done. Prices don’t appear to be listed on the website but the photographer does get props from people on Yelp.

7. Bombshell Betty’s Pin-Up Modeling Workshop. This one is a little bit different from the others. First of all, it’s pin-up photography not boudoir photography so the sexy look you’re going to have is different. Secondly, this is a workshop class not just a chance to hire a professional photographer so what you’re going to be doing is actually learning how to pose as a model. But the end result is the same: you end up with sexy professional photographs of yourself. You learn to pose, you get your makeup and hair done, and then you get a photo CD with all of your high-res images on it so you can pick and choose what you’d like to print. At $250 for the workshop, it’s one of the least expensive ways to get sexy photos taken in San Francisco. The workshop is only held once every few months with the next one being on December 20th.

Question: I’m still narrowing down my own choices for when I get my professional sexy shots done. Does anyone know of other San Francisco photographers who do great pin-up/boudoir/otherwise sexy photos?

Jennifer Skog does boudoir photos and is popular for the pre-wedding gals who want something a tad risque but a little more demure — probably not who I’d choose if you were going anywhere too kinky or unusual with your shoot but she has a nice style and covers the “sweet & sexy” boudoir photo well. I’ve seen Larry Utley’s name around — he seems sort of the opposite end of the spectrum (the anything goes crowd). The Blight photography does a lot of burlesque event shoots and erographic.com has a nice portal for links to specialists in erotic photography. I liked Aaron Hawks’ portfolio quite a bit — a bit dark, but well done.
