Where to See Drag Shows in San Francisco

One of the things that many visitors want to check out while they’re in San Francisco but that locals also love is this city’s drag shows. There are many different drag queens and drag kings who perform throughout San Francisco at various events but if it’s just any old day of the week and you want to see drag, where would you go?

Here are some of the best ongoing drag shows in San Francisco:

  • The Hotboxxx Girls. This is one of the hottest drag shows in the city and one of the easiest to go see since it happens every Friday night and every Saturday night at Aunt Charlie’s Lounge. It starts at 10 with a $5 cover and it’s really popular so reservations are recommended. Aunt Charlie’s also has a drag show on Wednesday’s called the Dream Queen’s Revue which has no cover charge.
  • Pink Slip. I don’t know a lot about this show yet because it’s relatively new (a few months old I believe). It’s at The Stud every Tuesday night at 11.
  • Hayes Valley Follies. This is a show that doesn’t cost a cover and it happens every single week on Saturday nights at ten. It’s at Marlena’s in the hot Hayes Valley neighborhood.
  • Charlie Horse. This one is at The Cinch, a dive-y little saloon on Polk Street where the drinks are strong and the girls are too. It’s hosted by former Miss Trannyshack Anna Conda and you get two-for-one well drink specials and popcorn with your show.
  • Sunday’s a Drag. If you like your drag fancy rather than in some dive bar then maybe this one is for you. It’s brunch-and-a-show which you pay $50 for and that includes the meal and some cocktails and your queens. It happens on Sunday early afternoons at Harry Denton’s Starlight Lounge.
  • Fauxgirls. This is a once-monthly drag show that happens at Kimo’s on Polk Street on the 3rd Saturday night of every month. There are a few reasons to check this one out. Number one, it’s been going on for eight years so these performers know what they’re doing. Number two, it’s fabulous. Number three, it’s free to get in.
  • Esta Noche Shows. This is a bar that I’m not familiar with but I’ve just recently read about it and think that I might need to go check it out. It’s in the Mission, it’s been around forever and apparently there are tons of different drag shows there all throughout the week.

These are the best ongoing drag shows that I know of in San Francisco. Got any to add?

Art Opening at Eros Tomorrow Night

Eros is a gay men’s sex club in the Castro. But it’s also more than that. They have an art gallery there where you can regularly see the works of hot local artists. And there are various events held at the venue as well.

Tonight is the opening reception for the newest art show. The artist is Stephen Gibson. He has a really interesting story behind his art - he was successful as an artist in the 1970’s and then found the work too lonely so he stopped painting. Recently he experienced a serious illness that ultimately caused him to find his way back to creating art. Powerful stuff. See his work on Flickr (particularly his male oriented work).

The opening reception for the show is fro 7-9 tonight at the gallery at Eros. The show is called To Eroticism and Beyond and the work will be up through mid-April.

7 Favorite Breast-Shaped Features of San Francisco

I recently did a post on all of the phallic structures that I see scattered across the San Francisco skyline. After I did, numerous people pointed out to me that you can also find lots of breast-shaped buildings and natural features in this city.

If you’re more about boobs than penises, then perhaps you’ll find yourself titillated by the following 7 breast-shaped buildings and natural features in San Francisco:

1. California Academy of Sciences

Well there are some strange things going on with the cleavage area here but I definitely see breasts at the center of this green-roofed scientific building. It’s such a family-friendly place that it’s got milky warmth written all over it.

2. Lombard Street Read more…

San Francisco’s Sexiest Annual Events: March

San Francisco has something sexy going on all of the time. Some of these sexy events are events that come around again and again at the same time of year. These are San Francisco’s sexiest annual events that people just keep looking forward to again and again. Do you know which ones are happening in March? Here’s a look:

  • Body Art Expo. A lot of people in San Francisco think that tattoos and piercings are sexy. And there are a lot of sexy tattooed and pierced people who attend the annual Body Art Expo that’s happening at the Cow Palace March 6th - 8th.
  • San Francisco Fetish Ball. This event typically happens the first weekend in March. The site doesn’t appear to have been updated for 2009 so I’m not sure what the details are about this year’s event (or if it’s happening). More info to follow as soon as I hear something.
  • GAYVN Awards. This is the annual gay porn awards event that includes a variety of different parties as well as the actual awards ceremony. It starts with a tailgate party on Friday, March 27th and the awards are the following night at the Castro Theatre.
  • Whiskies of the World Expo. If gay porn isn’t your thing then maybe it’s whiskey that gets you wet? Those people who love their whisky can go get frisky at this year’s tenth annual Whiskies of the World Expo on March 28th.

Good Vibes Classes and Events for March

A new month is upon is which means that there are a bunch of new classes and events over at Good Vibes, the adult toy store that’s got locations on Polk Street as well as Valencia Street.

Here are the classes they have in March:

  • How to Have a Hot Threesome. You’re pretty vanilla in this city if you haven’t at least thought about having a threesome. Curious about how to do it right? There’s a class at the Polk Street Good Vibrations store which takes place at 8 pm on Tuesday, March 3rd. The class is taught by sex and intimacy coaches Celeste and Danielle. It’s $30 for singles, $50 for couples.
  • Tantric Bliss in the Bedroom for Couples. People seeking to learn the art of tantra can do that on Mach 4th at the Valencia Street store at 8pm. This is a class for couples and it costs $50.
  • Full Body Bondage: Wrapping Your Partner from Head to Toe. There’s almost always a monthly bondage class at Good Vibes and this month is no exception. Learn some serious mummification bondage techniques at the Valencia Street store starting at 8pm on March 11th. Cost is $30.
  • The Zen Submissive. This is a unique class that discusses the submissive side of SM and what’s required of the submissive partner. It’s happening at 8pm at the Valencia Street Store on March 18th for $30.
  • Healing Sex. Unfortunately many people have some serious issues around sex because of past trauma. The good news is that there are classes to deal with that including this March 24th class at the Polk Street store. 8 pm. $30.
  • Introduction to Red Tantra. The final class of March is another tantra class for couples. Like the one at the beginning of the month, it starts at 8 at the Valencia Street store and costs $50. It happens March 25th.

And here are some additional events:

  • Lelo Luxe Toy Launch Party. There’s an adult luxury toy line that’s having a launch party at the Polk Street store on the night of March 6th. Wine, snacks and toys … oh my!
  • Carol Queen on Flirting. San Francisco sex expert Carol Queen will be taking your questions about the art of flirtation at the Valencia Street store on March 20th starting at 6:30. This one appears to be free.

Note that the prices given are the drop-in prices. Registration for all classes and events is recommended and it gets you a $5 discount.

Is your Sunday feeling kind of lazy? Want to sexy it up? Got a thing for breasts? Then the solution to your situation is to get yourself out of the house and over to DNA Lounge tonight for Boob Benefit II, a breast-happy burlesque-plus-more event that’s being put on by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Sunday’s Sexy SF Link Love

Great reads and videos around the sexy San Francisco blogosphere this week:

  • I Eat Cupcakes Professionally. Hot video post from Dottie Lux.
  • Jen Siebel’s Threesome Movie Trailer. Our own Mrs. Newsom in some steamy scenes.
  • Fun Things Roundup. local blogger Mighty Girl tries to do fun things every day. I love that idea!

  • Martha Wainwright at Noise Pop. Another hot music post.
  • BrokeAss Gourmet Sex Posts. This is a cool new food site that gives you recipes for great food on the cheap. They’ve got three sections - food, wine and sex - and some really cool local bloggers including Violet Blue.

  • Pushing Her Buttons. Indulgent smut from Good Vibes magazine.
  • Coffee + Boobies. Heartless Doll points out that this is just a bad combination.
  • SF Snapshots. This is just a great photo shot of a Grilled Cheese event from a local blog. There’s something totally attractive about the girl in the shot.
  • PleasureMechanics Leaving the Bay Area. Sad to see that these local sex educators are hitting the road and leaving the Bay Area although happy for them for their travels.

Best of the Blog: February

February was a short month but there was still time to get a few interesting posts up here on this blog.

The one really timeless post that was here in February was my post on my 7 favorite phallic structures in San Francisco. Which do you think is the hottest building here? There was also some eye candy here when I posted the sexy mail that I got from ODC dance.

I also had posts about some of the sexy things that I got a chance to do here in the city:

Everything else on the blog in February was fairly time-sensitive stuff like announcements about upcoming classes and events. One of the fun ones related to that was the post on this year’s sexiest Wondercon speakers.

And now I’m getting started with writing for March. I’m curious - what would you as a reader like to see more of on San Francisco is Sexy in the months to come?

Saturday’s Seven Sexy Things to do in San Francisco

What sexy things are you up to today? Here are seven options for a sexy Saturday night on the last night of February:

  1. Cabaret Verdalet. This is a big burlesque, cabaret, drag, performance art show that’s happening at the Great American Music Hall tonight. Tickets start at $30, doors open at 8 pm.
  2. Rocky Horror. If this show is your sexy style then here’s yet another chance to catch it. It’s at the Clay Theatre, at midnight of course, for about $10.
  3. Pajama Masquerade Party. That sounds like fun! It’s happening at Icon Ultra Lounge starting at ten and there’s a free guestlist for the first hour. Looks like it’s got hot DJs and hot hostesses.
  4. April Flores DVD Signing. April Flores is going to be at a DVD signing party at Good Vibes on Valencia tonight where she’ll be scrawling her signature across her films Glamazons and Voluptuous Biker Babes.
  5. Porn DVD Screening. Why just go to a signing when you can go to a screening? Femina Potens is having a fundraiser tonight and will be screening The New Romantix. Starts at 7.
  6. Anal Play Classes for Women and Men. The Center for Healing and Expression has several classes going on today including two classes that teach you how to have pain-free anal pleasure. The class for women is from 12-2 and the class for men is from 3-5.
  7. Burlesque Dance Classes. There are two classes being taught today at the Center for Sex and Culture - one on the art of the tease and one on stage presence. Classes start at $25 and they start at 1pm.

Plus don’t forget that Circus Finelli is still playing this weekend!

Addition: At the last minute several people have also pointed me in the direction of a big party dedicated to ’70’s porn. It’s called Pornivale; details at that link.

San Francisco is Sexy at the Blog Carnival

Just a quick note to point out that my recent post on Asexuality in San Francisco was included as part of a blog carnival. It’s over at the Anything Goes and General News blog carnival in the “odd news” category. Other categories of articles in this blog include celebrity gossip, entertainment, business news, politics, finance and technology.
