Today is the first day of a really great annual event: Bay Area Dance Week. Many different types of dance classes and performances are going to be held from now through May 3rd and some of those dance events are sexier than others.

Here are some top picks for the hottest dance classes and performances for this year’s event - and guess what? They’re all free:

• The Flow Show Arts Showcase. Various circus arts and club-style dances are transformed with hoops and fire to create a stunning performance. It’s at 8 tonight at CounterPulse.
• Zumba. This high-energy fitness dance has become a popular craze and some people think it’s a little bit sexy because of its Latin influence. Learn for yourself for free today at 10.
• Egyptian Pop Music Dancing. A fun class tomorrow afternoon at 2.
• Bollywood Dance Class. I can’t imagine that anyone could have a bad time at this kind of dance class. It’s on the 26th.
• Tango Class. What dance is sexier than tango? There are several classes throughout the week including an “intimate embrace” class on the 26th and the 3rd.
• Belly Dancing for Adults. This is a free class on the 28th.
• Hot Pink Feathers Showgirl Academy. Learn from the burlesque dance troupe best known for their participation in SF’s annual Carnval. There are classes on the 28th and 30th. This group is also involved in other events for the week - check out their site for the schedule.
• Sundance Saloon. Go country dancing at the city’s GLBT country bar on April 30th.
• Abundance of Dance. This performance, which includes a belly dance demonstration, overflows with energy. It’s on the 2nd.
• Temple of Poi Classes and Performances. This fire dancing art is being performed and taught for free on several different days in the upcoming week. There are also some unrelated HeroHoops hoop dancing classes throughout the week.

Dance is a sensual art. It’s all about the body as an art form, expression through the body and movement of the body. Get enchanted by it this week.

Note that these events and performances are just in San Francisco. There are also other things going on all througout the Bay Area this week as part of this annual event.
