San Francisco’s Sexiest Literary Events

San Francisco is a really smart city with people who don’t have any qualms about mixing their intelligence and their sexuality. Sometimes the sexiest thing that you can experience isn’t overt sex itself but rather the discussion of sex, the insinuation of possibility within the words of a sexy writer. San Francisco isn’t is book smart; it’s literary. And you can enjoy the sexy side of the written word here in so many different forms. Beyond just hanging out in the city’s sexiest bookstores, you can also attend any number of different sexy literary events around town.

Some of the hottest ongoing literary events in this city include:

  • Writers with Drinks.  Writers with drinks is a once-monthly literary event that has been taking place for about five years at The Makeout Room in The Mission. There are two things that you should know about this event. First, it is filled with literary talent of all different genres but there is almost always some kind of sexuality spilling out of the mouths of the people who are sharing their creative selves on the stage. And second, it is hosted by one of San Francisco’s sexiest literary hosts, Charlie Anders, who has legs that go on for miles and a wit that will keep you entertained.
  • Sizzle. This is another once-a-month literary event.  This one happens at the sexy feminist queer gallery called Femina Potens over on Market in The Castro. There are always several authors reading erotica at this event but there’s also always more than that. There is an open mic of hot readers at the start of the night and there is almost always someone doing a live performance of some sort during this event. If you’re seeking hot word events then this is probably the best one to check out.
  • Perverts Put Out. This is a semi-regular literary reading event that happens over at CounterPulse. It’s designed specifically to be dirty and is hosted by some of San Francisco’s most interesting people - Simon Shepphard and Carol Queen. the next one is coming up this Saturday and it’s themed Erect the Maypole so you can imagine what to expect.
  • K’Vetch. This is a monthly queer open mic that happens at Eros. Eros is typically a bathhouse just for guys but this event is open to all genders and orientations. It’s on the first Sunday of every month at 7:30 and it’s a free event.

These are the hottest ongoing events that I know of. There are also other random events like the erotic readings at Good Vibes as well as monthly events like Mortified that have the potential to be sexy although they aren’t necessarily geared that way. And of course in the fall we’ve got the Litquake/Litcrawl events which bring words to bars throughout the city and always have some sexy stuff accompanying them.

Thank you so much for these links… I love books and readings and so this is even more of interest. I’ll try to see if I can attend at least one!
