Sexy Chocolate Salon and 10 Hot Chocolate Shops
There are many different layers to being sexy. There is far more than just the outer layer of rough-edged sexual energy. There is also all of those inner layers of sweet sensuality. That’s what makes chocolate so sexy … it doesn’t come right out and smack you in the face with sex but it hints at all of that rich indulgence and it rarely fails to satisfy your expectations.
San Francisco is a great city to enjoy chocolate in. There are chocolate events and chocolate parties and really amazing chocolate shops here. There are sexy people who will serve you chocolate and there are sexy places where you can treat yourself to a taste of whatever dark or white or milk wonder you desire. There are many many different chocolate shops in San Francisco that are worth spending a bit of your money at. I’ll share 10 suggestions for where to get yours here.
But first, I have to mention that tomorrow is the 3rd Annual San Francisco International Chocolate Salon. There are 30,000 square feet of chocolate demonstrations, chocolate tastings, pairings of wine with chocolate and even a chocolate beauty salon. If you took one look at Augustus falling into that chocolate pond in Willy Wonka and thought, “ohmygod, I want to be him” then now is your chance. In a much more elegant setting.
But if you miss that event or you just want some chocolate on a different day, try any of these ten great chocolate shops:
- XOX Truffles. I happen to think that this North Beach truffle shop offers the best chocolate in the city. Not everyone agrees because their chocolate is limited to little truffles and a lot of it is dark chocolate. But if it’s your thing then those little baby bite sized bits of love will satisfy you every time.
- CocoaBella Chocolates. I was just introduced to this place on Union Street for the first time recently when I went to go get a great sexy haircut at Red Union Salon. I have to say that it stole my heart. It’s definitely pricey but every single chocolate in there looks like a little work of art. It’s beauty at its finest and it’s all allowed to go in your mouth.
- Chocolate Covered. This is a chocolate shop in Noe Valley and I’d have to say it’s the most fun chocolate shop I’ve been into in San Francisco so far. First of all it’s got a great selection of delectable hard-to-find chocolate bar flavors like lavendar white chocolate and tequila lime chocolate and the like. But it’s also got an odd assortment of lunchboxes around this chocolate. It makes you feel, well, like a kid in a candy store, right?
- Fog City News. Okay, so I’m sad to say that I have not yet been to this chocolate store but I plan to make it there ASAP because I’ve heard wonderful things about it. It’s not just a chocolate store. It’s a newsstand as well. But it does have loads of different chocolate and I kind of feel like there’s probably something sexy about the setting with the foreign magazines and soda pop in bottles and all of that chocolate to choose from.
- Coco-Luxe. I don’t quite know how I feel about this place. I went here and got their chocolate pudding which is super rich hot chocolate and I didn’t love it and felt like it was overpriced. That said, they do have some really yummy chocolates. And it’s a chocolate bar so, unlike most of the other spots, you can go with a small group (or a hot date) and sit down together and enjoy the romance of chocolate.
- TCHO. Another great place where you can sit down with others and enjoy great chocolate is this place on The Embarcadero over at Pier 17. Go here, watch the video and see that there’s something sexy about this company even though they’re just talking business. Plus it’s got my vote for sexiest design approach to chocolate.
- Poco Dolce. Here’s another one I haven’t been to yet. What can I say, I don’t get to Potrero Hill too often. But from everything I’ve read online about their “chocolate tiles”, I think I may have to get myself there soon.
- Bittersweet: The Chocolate Cafe. Likewise with this Pacific Heights location that is a coffee shop which places a strong emphasis on the chocolate that’s available here. It looks cute and flirty and worth at least one date.
- Chocolate on Castro. A tip from someone else says that this is the most delectable chocolate shop there is. It’s on sexy Castro Street so who am I to argue?
- Ghirardelli. Okay, so I debated about whether or not to include this on the list. It’s too touristy. It’s too family-oriented. But go there and get yourself a chocolate brownie sundae with chocolate fudge. Take it and the date that you have brought with you and go down to the water across the street at Aquatic Park. Watch the slight waves of the Bay, look at the view, enjoy your chocolate and try to tell me that this doesn’t have something sexy about it even though you live here and aren’t “supposed” to like it.
If you aren’t feeling too filled with chocolate yet, take a look at the trailer for the documentary movie In Search of the Heart of Chocolate which is all about the pursuit of chocolate and the sex and fantasy that it holds.

I love your description of chocolate’s sexuality:), and my god, can somebody chain me down to the floor of my apartment so that I don’t even consider entering this 30 000 square feet of chocolate!
@ Tina Tarnoff … Thanks I really love chocolate and have come to love it even more since I moved here and suddenly find myself with access to really high-quality unique chocolate. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, though, right?!
