Belle Du Jour at Red Vic Today and Tomorrow

The Red Vic Movie House in The Haight is arguably one of the sexiest movie theatres in the city. It shows indie films, foreign films and cool second-run films in a big-enough-to-be-good, small-enough-to-be-intimate single-screen theatre. There are cuddle-friendly bench seats, lots of cool people and the pleasant joy of supporting a co-op theatre. It’s a cool place with a sexy edge.

And that edge is a bit sexier today and tomorrow as a result of the film that’s playing: an old film from the 1960’s called Belle Du Jour. Yum, even the name sounds hot. The single-line description on IMDB is totally intriguing: “A frigid young housewife decides to spend her midweek afternoons as a prostitute.”

Additional words used in the description on either the IMDB page or the Red Vic page include:

Kinky

Erotic fantasies

Sexual desires

Respectfully temporizing caresses

Brutal degradation

Brothel

Fantasies

Evocative

Surrealist

Interest piqued yet? Mine, too. Seems like it’s worth a view and probably way better to do that over at Red Vic than to rent the film.
