Power Exchange Has Moved to Vegas

One of San Francisco’s sex institutions has closed down indefinitely but there’s still the opportunity for you to experience a version of this place if you missed out on it the first time around. The institution is The Power Exchange and the way to check it out is to go to the new location opening in Las Vegas next week. To kick things off, they’re allowing Bay Area residents to get into the new Vegas location free during the dates of January 8th - 11th (although the official grand opening of the spot isn’t until January 10th).

So what’s the deal?

The Power Exchange was this iconic sex club that people wanted to check out at least once during their time in San Francisco just because they could. It was a multi-level sex club with an area for hetero couples and an area for not-so-hetero folks, some dance floors, a bunch of fantasy rooms and the opportunity to have sex or watch others having sex in a communal environment.

Discussing this club with people, I’ve encountered one who loved it, a few who liked it, many who thought it was interesting and worth the experience of going just once and a couple who wished they had never stepped foot in the place. Everyone’s experience, in other words, was different despite the fact that descriptions of this sex club were basically the same from most of these people. (The Yelp page for it sums it up succintly.)

So why did it close? Truth is, I can’t seem to find direct information about this. For awhile, there was a note on the website saying that it was going to re-open but that has since been removed. Rumors floating around indicate that some weird health code violations may have caused the place to clam up but that’s pure rumor that doesn’t seem to be confirmed anywhere.

What is confirmed is that the place is shut down in San Francisco now but the Las Vegas version is about to open.  In my personal experience, San Francisco is far sexier than Las Vegas but that doesn’t mean that Vegas lacks sex stuff. If you’ve been thinking about planning a trip there and you never got the chance to see the Power Exchange when it was alive and well here, a spontaneous weekend in Vegas next week could be in the air. They’ve got multiple themed playrooms to check out.

Oh, and there’s free food and drink at the opening event night on the 10th … although I’m not sure how most people feel about enjoying food and beverages at a Vegas sex club.
