7 Sexy San Francisco Artists

San Francisco is a city filled with artists. There are artists practicing in probably every medium and covering almost every topic that you can possibly imagine who are working from every corner and hill of this city. But of course the ones that I’m interested in most are the ones who are making art that’s got a sexy edge.

Here is a look at the work of just seven of those sexy San Francisco artists. For this set, I’ve stuck to sharing paintings / drawings that include sexy women in them but these artists are all diverse artists who do lots of different types of work as well.

1. Erika Meriaux. This artist is a member of the femina potens network (one of the sexiest art galleries in San Francisco) and came to my attention because she recently had a show / reception (11/13/08) at the Center for Sex and Culture. She paints nudes (see her gallery) but I happen to think that her sexiest piece is this oil on canvas called explanation:

2. Andrzej Michael Karwacki. This Bay Area artist describes his figurative paintings as “contemporary fashion pop art” but they can also be summed up by the word “sexy”. There’s something about the way that he draws passion into the figure’s eyes that makes you feel utterly seduced. There’s also a lot of creativity in his multi-faceted work; check out the links here to see his incorporation of text into images. Or just enjoy The Green Panther:

3. Diego Gomez. This guy is not only my good friend but also a fabulous sexy artist / designer working from the Tenderloin to set the city aflame with his art. It doesn’t matter whether he’s drawing men or women or something in between or something entirely out of this world, the way he shapes their bodies and lines their muscles makes you want to turn into a drawing yourself so you can be part of that sexy world. The image (titled Lillith) below is just one example of this talent, see more at Diego’s blog.

4. Christina Empedocles. Through a series of travels from link to link on the web, I came across some thumbnails of this artist’s work and it caught my attention. Not all of her work is sexy per se but a lot of it (see more here) is rooted in fantasy. It’s also just got something really “different” (can’t put your finger on it but it’s not what you usually see kind of different) and I think there’s something really sexy about that.

5. Courtney Trouble. This diverse artist dabbles in everything from video art to music to graphic design. Her photo composites and album art covers are particularly sexy but it’s safe to say that she infuses sexy into almost everything she does.

6. Suzanne Rachel Forbes. This Bay Area artist doesn’t just do sexy drawings and paintings but will actually do custom portraits for those people who are interested in getting their own sexy image painted on to a canvas. The acrylic painting below comes from her etsy store:

7. Susannah Ward. One image from this woman’s website is not nearly enough to explain the creative work that she is doing so I really urge you to check her out further. She is a not-willing-to-be-boxed-in expressionist of love who uses mediums ranging from painting to modeling to performance to photography to something more. Even her website is a stunning work of art.

Note: I’m putting together several more posts of sexy SF artists. The next one will be a post similar to this one with artwork that features paintings / drawings of sexy men. Drop a line / link if you know of any SF artists doing this type of work.
