14 Folsom / Folsom-esque Things To Do This Weekend

The Folsom Street Fair is still a few days about but we’re already halfway through SF Leather Week and that means that there is already tons of Folsom-ish stuff going on around San Francisco.

Here’s a look at fourteen different Folsom-style things that you can do / attend / see / experience this weekend:

  1. Magnitude All-Night Dance Party. Start dancing with all of the other leather fans at 10 o’clock on Saturday night and keep on dancing until four in the morning when the dance party comes to an end. If you already have Saturday night plans, go to the Magnitude Kickoff Party at The Lookout tonight from 6-8 to get a feel for the crowd that you’ll be missing out on.
  2. SIGIL 2008. This is a performance art event that’s got a goth / leather edge. It includes aerial art performances, a gore make-up booth, body suspension displays and tons more. And it’s only $20 at the door which isn’t bad for a big performance. It’s held at Fat City on Friday night starting around 9 and going on for five or six hours.
  3. Erotic Art Auction. This is an annual event put on by SF Leather Daddies that’s been going on for the past (lucky) thirteen years. It’s happening at The Eagle Tavern from nine to midnight tonight. Drink beer, meet people, buy art. It supports an organization called Visual Aid so you’re doing good things while you’re having your good time.
  4. Hot Male Erotic Art Show. If you can’t afford the Erotic Art Auction but you do like hot art then you can check out a free open-studio show by San Francisco artist Mark Powers which is happening on Saturday from noon to six. The art here is bondage art drawings of hot men in compromising positions. Adult beverages will be available on site.
  5. Folsom Foreplay Party for Women. This is a play party in an amazing play space for women (including transgendered people who identify as a women). It’s a fundraiser with the emphasis on the “fun” and will include attendance by International Ms. Leather 2008 and International Ms. Bootback 2008.
  6. Notorious City Tour. Get an education this weekend in the history of the GLBT / Leather scene in San Francisco. (It’s been sexy here since the early days!) This is a combination bus and walking tour that happens on Saturday from ten thirty in the morning until three in the afternoon which is early enough that it’s not going to interfere with any of your other Folsom plans.
  7. Bearhunter Calendar Release Party. If you’re into bears then you’ll be into the calendar that this party is for … and you’ll be into the party since the models for the calendar will be circulating around and looking sexy. It’s held at A Different Light Bookstore, starts at 8 on Friday night and includes food and an open bar.
  8. Lube Me Up Art Show at Femina Potens. This awesome art gallery is launching a new art show all about the motorcycle / leather culture for women. It’s sponsored by San Francisco’s Dykes on Bikes and there’s an opening reception party on Saturday starting at 7 pm.
  9. Perverts Put Out spoken word event at CounterPulse. This is a spoken word performance art event emceed by Carol Queen and Simon Sheppard (if you don’t know who they are, you should find out). They’ve got a Folsom-themed event performance event happening this week on Saturday at 7:30.
  10. Special Delivery Uniform Party at Lexington Club. This lesbian bar is celebrating Folsom with a get-in-uniform party event. DJ’s, costume prizes and no cover make it really easy to enjoy this place. This one is from nine to midnight on Saturday.
  11. Perverse Cabaret. If you’re a fan of the drag and burlesque events in San Francisco then you’ll like this fetish-themed affair. It’s a multimedia performance that happens on Saturday from nine to midnight and includes all kinds of sexiness on display for your pleasure.
  12. Big Dipper: The Bear Musical. Into bears but afraid that you’re not going to get enough edifying culture this weekend? How about attending a musical that’s got sexy written all over it? It’s got shows on both Friday and Saturday night at Shotwell.
  13. The Hyena Report art installation @ Climate Theatre. This art installation by SF artist Dorian Katz uses the image of the hyena to explore sexual boundaries and sexual identity. The work has been described as lying somewhere between “cute” and “nasty” and it’s definitely got an edge. It’s animalistic … just like Folsom!
  14. Folsom Street Fair. Of course, the big event is the Folsom Street Fair itself which happens during the day on Sunday. Once there, you’ll find that there are far more than fourteen different things that you can do / see at this event alone!
