Calendar of San Francisco’s Sexiest Annual Events

You can find something sexy to do almost every single night of the year in San Francisco. However, a lot of those things are one-time events or weekly events that only last for a short period of time before they fizzle out and something else takes San Francisco’s center stage. Luckily, there are some sexy San Francisco events that you can count on happening in this city year after year after year.

Here’s a calendar to keep you abreast of the hottest annual happenings in San Francisco. (Remember that many of these events - like Folsom Street Fair in September - also have other annual parties and events that are associated with them and which happen in the days leading up to or following the event itself so check the websites of each event to find out more.)

January

  • Sex Worker Art Show. This is a national performance art show that tours at the beginning of each year. It usually comes to San Francisco in late January and is always a terrific show that isn’t to be missed. It’s been held in various venues including The Victoria Theatre and Cafe du Nord. What you’ll find wherever it’s held is a variety of different performance art pieces ranging from readings of journal entries to abstract bondage performance pieces all of which are created and performed by people working in various aspects of the sex industry.
  • Noir City Film Festival. The sexiest film genre in history (porn aside) is probably film noir. San Francisco celebrates that historic sexiness each year around the last week of January with a week-long film festival showcasing racy films in sexy San Francisco theatres.
  • Zap Zinfandel Festival. Wine is totally sexy. For some people, the sexiest wine is a good zin. And for those people, a sexy annual event happens at the end of January known as the Zap Zinfandel Festival. Get your wine buzz going and feel the energy of your sexy side starting to bubble up inside of you.
  • SF Sketchfest. This is a comedy festival that happens in San Francisco in mid-January. What’s sexy about it? What’s not sexy about laughter?!
  • Women on the Way Festival. This annual festival features the rising female starts of performance art. It includes all different types of performances including those that can make your heart palpitate.
  • The Edwardian Ball. San Francisco loves costume parties and themed events and period pieces and this annual January weekend event highlights that passion. Circus arts and burlesque and dancing and all-night revelry come together in one costumed affair to make everyone attending feel absolutely sexy.

February

  • Miss Chinatown USA Pageant. Young Chinese-American women come from around the country each year to participate in this beauty pageant which has been taking place for half a century in San Francisco. If beauty pageants are your thing then this is one of the sexiest ones you’re ever going to experience.
  • Gay Porn Awards Ceremony. Celebrate the sex in gay porn by attending the GayVN Awards. You can expect a diverse crowd of people as hinted at by the required attired listed on the website which is ”Business/Formal/Nightclub/Fashion/Couture/Drag Attire/Leather”. Any event that lets you wear business, club or leather wear is a sexy event. And, you know, there’s the whole gay porn aspect to to it.
  • Woo at the Zoo. There are tons of sexy things that you can do in San Francisco for Valentine’s Day but this one is really something different. It’s a multi-media event held at the San Francisco Zoo which gives you insight into the mating habits of many animals. It’s supplemented with aphrodisiacs including winte, sushi and chocolate covered strawberries. And it’s been going on for almost twenty years so it’s a staple of San Francisco’s sexy calendar.
  • Pornivale. This one just started in 2009 so we’ll have to see if it really continues as an annual event but it looks to be a good addition to the calendar if it does. It’s a huge party dedicated to 1970’s porn with tons of screens to watch, people in hot costumes and sexy games.

March

  • SF Fetish Ball. Launched in 2001, this is a fashion-show-plus-more affair that is held around the first weekend of the month in March. It’s got super sexy performers and includes additional bonus things like fetish play space at sexy local clubs.
  • Bay One Acts. This is a theatre festival of one-act plays that sometimes features something sexy.
  • Whiskies of the World Expo. If whiskey is what gets you wet then this is an annual event for you.
  • Body Art Expo. People who get all turned on by body art can attend this annual expo down in Daly City each March.
  • International Chocolate Salon. What’s sexier than chocolate right?

April

  • Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Easter. Every Easter these drag nuns host a big costumed celebration at Dolores Park where you can see men in spandex bunny suits and other signs of spring in San Francisco.
  • National Dance Week Events. The last week of April is National Dance Week and San Francisco celebrates it with a whole bunch of events and performances. Many of these are super-sensual and it makes for a great week when feelings of sexiness are in the air.
  • SF International Film Festival. There is always something hot included in this long-running film festival.
  • SF International Beer Fest. Because beer gets some people all hot and bothered.
  • Alchemy. This is a live art and fashion event that happens at the end of April and it’s definitely got a sexy side.

May

  • Uncorked! San Francisco’s wine tasting events are some of the most sensual events in the city. They cause your taste buds to flutter and they make you a little bit tipsy. Of all of them, this one (in which the wine is paired with gourmet food) is among the best. It’s held at Ghirardelli Square in mid-May.
  • Bay to Breakers. In any other city, a foot race is just a foot race. In San Francisco, it becomes a wildly sexy and fun event. This happens on the third Sunday in May and starts in the morning. Technically it’s a race but what happens here is that the whole city (and many visitors) crowd along (and / or move along) the race route in various stages of undress. It is sexy chaos like you haven’t seen in any other city.

June

  • Annual Erotic Art Show at SF Shooting Gallery. In early June of each year, the SF Shooting Gallery in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood hosts an annual erotic art show. Go and gaze on the edgy art, enjoy the artist’s reception and appreciate the beauty of visual erotica.
  • Striptease Auction and Fashion Trunk Show. This is a fun annual event that’s been going on for the past few years at The Lab in The Mission. Local indie designers show off their fashions in a runway show with a twist. The models (think Suicide Girls and their male counterparts) strip down as the clothes are auctioned off of their bodies on the runway.
  • Haight Street Fair. The second weekend of June is the weekend when you should head up to the Haight for the annual street fair there. In some ways, this is just your average San Francisco street fair with food booths and live music. But then there are usually those naked folks hanging out of windows in the apartments above the Haight’s retail spaces and other wacky Only-in-SF things that show off a slightly sexier side of street fairs.
  • Pride Weekend. June is Gay Pride Month in San Francisco and you will find that there are tons of sexy events happening all throughout the month and all throughout the city. It all culminates with Pride Weekend which is the final weekend of June. The main events associated with Pride Weekend are the Pink Party which happens in the Castro on Saturday night, the weekend-long street fair / performance event that takes place at the Civic Center and the Pride Parade which happens on Sunday morning. You can do something sexy every day of the month related to this event though.

July

  • Annual Sex Worker Film and Arts Festival. This is a week filled with art and events related to sex work. There are films to be seen, live performances to experience, parties to attend and photos to be taken. The Roaming Hookerfest outdoor guerilla art event is a favorite.
  • Dore Alley Street Fair. This happens the last Sunday of July each year. It’s a big BDSM / leather fair (although not as big as the much-better-known Folsom Street Fair which happens each September). It started out as a street fair that took place just in one alley (Dore Alley) but it’s been branching out ever since. When you go here, you can expect to see a whole lot of nudity, leather, public whippings and  bondage-on-display. Other highlights at the most recent one that I attended included naked Twister, several furries and a man with a huge tattoo of a boot print on his back.

September

  • Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival. Technically there’s nothing about sex at this event but you can’t deny that chocolate is sexy. It’s considered an aphrodisiac so you might leave this event (at which you can taste tons of different types of chocolate) feeling more than a little bit lightheaded from the sugar and cocoa.
  • Fringe Fest. Every September an event launches in the city which causes a buzz of excitement among those people who love live theatre performances. for more than a week there are over half a dozen performances daily of different plays. A large percentage of these plays have at least an edge of sexiness about them (if not downright being purely about sex).
  • Folsom Street Fair. This is the city’s big BDSM / leather street fair which has been happening for 25+ years in San Francisco’s SoMA neighborhood. It’s grown to huge sizes covering thirteen blocks and welcoming about 400,000 people. It has been named one of the best street fairs in the city and is considered artistic, creative and oh-so-sexy. It’s got some of the same crowd as you’ll find at July’s Dore Alley Fair but it’s a little less intense for those people who are tourists to the BDSM scene.

October

  • Tease-o-Rama. This burlesque convention was launched in 2001 to celebrate the re-emergence of the art of burlesque performance. It’s been held in different cities over the years including San Francisco. It’s always popular here and so it’s likely to keep on coming back year after year.
  • Fleet Week. Some women (and many men) just can’t get enough of men in uniform. There are plenty of them to be seen at the annual fleet week events which take place around the second weekend of October each year.
  • Capsule Design Festival. This is an indie fashion design event held in Hayes Valley that brings over one hundred designers together in an outdoor space in one of my favorite neighborhoods. It’s the annual event that you can go to in order to find the clothes that will make you feel sexy all year long.
  • Shag Jam Festival. This event was launched in 2007 with the intention of bringing the dance and culture of the 1930’s back to life. It includes a series of classes and live dance performances (mostly swing) and a few events like dress-to-impress balls that bring the sexiness of another era to life in San Francisco.
  • Exotic Erotic Ball. Some people look forward to Halloween in San Francisco which is definitely a sexy time no matter where you celebrate it but the real big October celebration is Exotic Erotic. This event takes place on the Saturday prior to Halloween and can only be described as hot. It includes a huge number of sexy live performers (strippers, burlesque performers, sexy contortionists) and booths (kissing booths, booths selling sexy toys) and oddities (a human petting zoo). It’s arguably the hottest annual event in San Francisco.

November

  • TrannyFest Film Festival. This transgender film festival was the first of its kind in North America when it started more than ten years ago and it’s still drawing new fans each year. Many of the films that are held at this three-day-weekend event are on the cutting edge of innovation in terms of the development of film today.
  • Hip Hop Dance Fest. Hip hop dancers move with their whole bodies and there’s definitely something hot about that. Watch it in action at the end of the month each November when these dance performances take center stage at The Palace of Fine Arts.

December

  • New Years Eve. The specific events that are best to enjoy on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco seem to vary a lot from year to year. What doesn’t change is that there are all sorts of boys and girls who are all dolled up and getting ready to embrace another sexy year in San Francisco.

This calendar is a dynamic calendar which means that it’s regularly being updated with new events that I didn’t think to include the first time around. If you know of a San Francisco event that happens once or twice a year and is super sexy then you should let me know via the comments on this post!
