Dottie Lux is Starting Burlesque Classes in the New Year

One of the sexiest things about people here in San Francisco is that they are smart. We aren’t a “dumb blonde” city even though we have plenty of men and women here who can happily play that part. We aren’t a “geek” city either - at least not in the nerdy “needs to go on that Pickup Artist show” kind of way. We’re just smart in a cool kind of way and cool in a smart kind of way and sexy in our own unique ways.

And since we’re both smart and sexy, it’s very little surprise that we like to take classes in sex. We want to be educated in the ways of the body. (Keep your eye on this blog for a roundup post of all of the great places there are here to take classes in exotic dancing, pinup modeling, sexual positions and more.)

One of the upcoming classes that I’m most excited to hear about right now is a set of burlesque dance and performance classes that are being started by Dottie Lux. If you know burlesque in San Francisco then you probably already know who Dottie is - she’s all over this city with her sexy self, sharing her entertainment skills and her smarts with the city around her. She’s the genius behind Red Hots Burlesque which performs every Friday night at El Rio among other spots and times around town.

And you can learn from the best starting as soon as the calendar page turns and we’ve entered an exciting new year. That’s because Dottie Lux is launching a short series of classes called the School of Shimmy which are designed to teach you all about burlesque from the history of the performance art to the art of knowing how to do it yourself. You’ll even get a chance to develop your own stage persona and show up on stage at an El Rio showcase event if you so desire.

The great thing about this set of classes in comparison to some of the other burlesque and exotic dance classes out there is that there’s a whole lot of different stuff to learn and you can kind of pick and choose what suits you to make the experience all your own. If you want to learn how to put together your own choreographed performance and then get a chance to shine on stage, you can do that. If you just want to learn a little bit more about what burlesque is all about (so that perhaps you can add some spice to your own bedroom act) then you can do that as well.

Classes start on January 4th and include Burlesque 101 and 201, burlesque craft-making, hair and make-up information and choreography classes along with a rehearsal for those who plan to perform at El Rio and culminating in that performance on February 13th. That’s right; classes wrap up just in time for Valentine’s Day so you’ll be ready to heat up the heart of someone you love even if you don’t want to show it all off on stage.

For more info and / or reservations, email  redhotsburlesque@gmail.com and put SOS in the subject line. Classes are only $30 each; ask Dottie about discounts for groups.
