Photos from Prop 8 Protest
There are tons of articles and blog posts out there around the web today that describe the purpose and the experience of the Prop 8 protest / march that happened last night in San Francisco. I won’t go into too much extra detail except to say that it was a really peaceful, loving, community-driven experience. There is definitely passion and frustration and emotion underlying the issue but the march itself was about the people of this city coming together in support of the civil rights of everyone who lives here.
There is still a long way to go in the civil rights battle (clearly) but I do think it’s important to note that things have (slowly) changed for the better over the years. It wasn’t that long ago that shutting down streets and blocking traffic with a protest would’ve led to violence and arrests and fear. This protest was safe for kids and families of all kinds. There was support from the cars and buses that got stuck, the cops that walked alongside the crowd and the people reporting on the event. We aren’t there yet, but we’re getting there …
